“Do I need to know how to code?” is a question that comes up with sure-fire consistency in design circles. I’ve seen it asked by so many, from uncertain design students in classrooms worried about their chances of landing a job, to seasoned professionals at conferences seeing their pool of print projects slowly evaporate. The question is being asked with even greater frequency as of late, because Adobe has launched their product Muse, which promises designers the ability to “create unique websites without writing code.” So, if a designer wants to work on the web, should they take the time to learn this dastardly “code” or instead rely on software like Muse?

This is a fantastic and surprisingly creative campaign by the CDC to get people to consider something we typically don’t think about until we need it. Given the number of terrible storms our region has seen so far this year, taking a few minutes to make sure you’re prepared for disaster seems worthwhile.
Also: Olly Moss, responsible for the above illustration, is amazing.

Last week, the Centers for Disease Control and Preparedness, the federal agency that bills itself as “your online source for credible health information” released a guide to preparing for the zombie apocalypse.
The point, for the CDC, was to raise awareness about the upcoming hurricane season, and encourage people in vulnerable areas to have flashlights and food and water on hand. As one spokesman told Reuters: “If you prepare for the zombie apocalypse, you’ll be prepared for all hazards.”
